“Do you know how thrilled I am to make a middle-aged woman a goddess?” Aline Brosh McKenna says in between takes on the set of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Donna Lynne Champlin, who plays Paula, is in full glamour mode atop a throne, wearing a coral silk dress, hair extensions, and a face painted for the gods. She continues, “It’s rare to see middle aged ladies who weren’t stunning supermodels look sexy. Donna Lynne and I bond over how middle-aged women are thrown on the trash heap of desirability.”

This weekend, Vulture will present an exclusive deep-dive into the making of the CXG finale (which airs tonight at 8 p.m. EST), but for now, you can sate your desires with the music video for a new number, “Miracle of Birth.” Over the course of a three-minute hymn, Paula describes the gruesome effect childbirth can have on a woman’s body while serving womb-goddess realness.

“I cried,” Champlin says after she first saw herself in full costume before the number. “Aline came over to me and said, ‘Did you ever think we’d get a woman in her mid-40s dressed as a goddess, sitting on a throne and being worshiped? I feel like everything I’ve done in my career has led to this moment!’ I was like, ‘Girl, it can’t feel as good as being the mid-40s woman dressed as a goddess being worshiped on a throne!’”
