ABC has picked up a spinoff from The Goldbergs that will be set in 1990 and star Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live), Bryan Callen (Mad TV), and A.J. Michalka (Super 8), it was announced on Monday. The pilot of the new show aired as an episode of The Goldbergs in January and was directed by Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers), with Meadows and Callen starring as the William Penn Academy school principal and gym teacher respectively. Creator and executive producer Adam F. Goldberg praised Callen as the inspiration for finding a spinoff, saying that he “is so amazing and he just keeps coming back on that show.”
Meadows most recently starred as a lead in No Activity on CBS All Access and was a regular on FOX’s short-lived Son of Zorn prior to that.
