Hulu’s The Act Trailer Reimagines the Tragic True-Crime Tale of Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard

Between her award-winning turn in Ben Stiller’s Escape at Dannemora and her new role in Hulu’s upcoming true-crime drama The Act, Patricia Arquette barely had enough time to squeeze in a fitting for a new batch of horrible wigs. No, you’re right — they probably reused some of them. In a teaser released Monday, Hulu gave your first glimpse of Arquette and Joey King as Dee Dee and Gypsy Blanchard, the focus of Erin Lee Carr’s harrowing 2017 documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest. If that wasn’t enough of a spoiler, the teaser above reveals more than enough to let you know things aren’t even a stone’s throw from normal in the Blanchard household. You’d think all those doctors and nurses would notice, but, well, not every part of a mystery always has a satisfying explanation. The Act begins on March 20, 2019.
