The Baby-Sitters Club Is Back, Thanks to Netflix

Netflix is taking its talents to the fictional town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut, for a real live-action series based on the The Baby-Sitters Club books of ’90s fame. The streaming giant announced today in a release that the BFFs of Stoneybrook are being revived for a ten-episode series order based on the best-selling teen novels.

All five original characters — Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, and Dawn Schafer — will be represented in the “family-friendly adaptation.” It doesn’t appear that this revival of the beloved characters will have anything to do with HBO’s short-lived 1990 series, or the 1995 movie of the same name.

Author Ann M. Martin published the first books in the series in 1986, and it took off as a cult classic among tweens in the ’90s. Martin said in a statement, “I’m amazed that there are so many passionate fans of The Baby-Sitters Club after all these years, and I’m honored to continue to hear from readers — now grown, who have become writers, editors, teachers, librarians, filmmakers — who say that they see a reflection of themselves in the characters of Kristy and her friends. So I’m very excited about the forthcoming series on Netflix, which I hope will inspire a new generation of readers and leaders everywhere.”

With the Beverly Hills, 90210 revival announced yesterday and this today, there’s no telling what’s coming next as reboot mania rages on.
