In 1972, Sydney Pollack filmed Aretha Franklin singing over two consecutive nights at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. Nearly 50 years later, all that footage has been realized in Amazing Grace, a concert documentary put together by Alan Elliott. In the trailer, Aretha sings “Amazing Grace” like you’ve never heard it before, milking each note and inflection for its divinity.
