Jane Villanueva knows she only needs to make minimal tweaks to her own life to transform it into a romance novel for the ages. According to Deadline, Crazy Rich Asians actor Remy Hii is the latest cast member to join the first season of Jane the Virgin spin-off Jane the Novela. He’ll play Luen, head of security and devoted boyfriend to art curator Estela, portrayed by East Los High actress Jacqueline Grace Lopez, who finds herself torn between her loyal partner and rich playboy Felix, played by Quantico’s Hunter Parrish. All of which should sound pretty familiar to anyone who’s seen even one episode of Jane the Virgin. But of course, that’s by design.

As an anthology show, each season of Jane the Novela will be based on a fictional bodice ripper penned by Gina Rodriquez’s Jane, who will also provide narration. According to Deadline, “the first installment takes place at the intersection of Napa Valley wine country and the San Francisco art scene and pairs family secrets and sins of the past with twists, tropes, and a bloody bottle of red.” So basically Jane the Virgin, if everyone’s bright Miami looks were getting constantly ruined by a nice cabernet sauvignon.

In addition to 13 Reasons Why actor Benito Martinez and Teen Wolf’s Holland Roden, Jane the Novela will also co-star Jane the Virgin’s Ivonne Coll. Having played Jane’s grandmother Alba in the original series, Coll will now portray Estela’s adopted mother Camila in the spin-off. Because of course Jane would give her abuela a juicy role in her torrid romance novel.
