Starz Orders a Third Season of American Gods, Which Really Speaks to the Power of Ian McShane

The headline for Vulture’s review of American Gods season two was not bursting with praise. (“Good Lord, What Happened to American Gods?,” asked Matt Zoller Seitz.) But Starz seems like it’s still pretty optimistic about the opulent fantasy series, giving it a green light for season three. Original showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green left the show after season one and were replaced by Jesse Alexander, with author Neil Gaiman taking on larger role in its creative execution. For season three, however, a new name enters the game. Charles “Chic” Eglee will be the new showrunner and executive producer, news that falls in line with reports of massive production problems that plagued the production of season two. The old gods will live another day.
