Olivier Assayas and Juliette Binoche are very good at making movies together, and after the heavier mood of Clouds of Sils Maria, they’ve come together again with the bouncier Non-Fiction. It focuses on a pair of men, one a writer and one an editor, who are both staring down obsolescence from two fronts: getting older is hard and print publishing is shrinking. But here comes Binoche, Assayas’s shining star, playing an actress struggling for credibility with her new work. She’s also the wife of the editor, having a years-long affair with the writer. It’s love! It’s publishing! It’s French! Watch the first trailer above. The movie hits theaters on May 3.
