This summer, Moulin Rouge! is coming Broadway, and everything is looking very exclamation point. Above, you can watch a new trailer for the spectacular spectacular musical based on the 2001 Baz Luhrmann movie, which will star Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo as the doomed lovers Christian and Satine, who express absolutely all their feelings in pop music. The rest of the cast includes Danny Burstein, Sahr Ngaujah, Ricky Rojas, Robyn Hurder, and Tam Mutu, while Alex Timbers (of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and Beetlejuice) directs. The new version incorporates the songs and mash-ups from the original as well as a few new samples — at its out-of-town tryout in Boston last summer, there were versions of “Firework,” and of course, “Bad Romance.” Moulin Rouge! The Musical will start performances at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, previously home to Kinky Boots, on June 28. Tickets are available now, so you should already be practicing your “Lady Marmalade” snaps.
