Empire Will Fall After Its Sixth Season

Photo: Fox

After all that legal hullabaloo surrounding Jussie Smollett versus the city of Chicago, we now have to face another daunting reality: Our time with the Lyons is coming to an end. Fox confirmed this morning that Empire’s upcoming sixth season will be its last, with the musical drama concluding after more than 100 episodes on the network. It was previously confirmed that the show had “no plans” to include Smollett in its sixth season, although the future of his character, the newly married Jamal, would still be “open” as the season progressed. (Series finale, anybody?) Let’s see how it strikes back.

Also, since we’re on the topic of Fox, two other tidbits to pass along: That delightfully bizarre Masked Singer is coming back for two more seasons (set to debut in the fall and spring), and that dad you love to hate and hate to love, Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing, will also be returning in 2020.
