Hilary Swank is staying in TV, but also heading off to space. The studio announced today that the two-time Oscar winner will star in the new series Away, which is inspired by an article of the same name published by Esquire in 2014. The central character of that story was a man named Scott Kelly, but Swank will play an astronaut named Emma Green, who sets off “to command an international space crew embarking on a treacherous mission,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Given that Swank starred in the 2003 movie The Core, she is already very familiar with harrowing missions into extreme environments, so Away should be no sweat. The series will be produced by Jason Katims of Parenthood and Matt Reeves, who directed and co-wrote two of the three films in the recent Planet of the Apes franchise. Jessica Goldberg will serve as showrunner. Here’s to putting more of our best actresses in space.
