RIP Game of Thrones Coffee Cup, Which Has Disappeared Forever

After 24 hours of furor, hilarity, apologies, extremely serious investigations, and conflicting reports about the most important thing to ever happen on Game of Thrones, our long national nightmare is now over. The hot beverage cup that accidentally appeared in a scene from Sunday’s Game of Thrones has now been edited out of the footage. An HBO rep has confirmed to Vulture that the cup has now been removed.

If you watched “The Last of the Starks” when it first ran on HBO or appeared on HBOGo Sunday night, at about 17 minutes into the episode you could’ve spotted the disposable hot beverage cup sitting on a table next to Daenerys. The scene is now exactly the same, but the cup has disappeared, leaving only an empty spot on the table and a forlorn-looking Dany.

This seems to be an end to the whole cup fiasco, but we may never know the real story behind the cup’s true mysteries. Who left it there? Was it even coffee, or was it tea? Did it come from craft services, as HBO’s official statement claims, or did it come from a local shop, as indicated by Game of Thrones art director Hauke Richter?

The final season of Game of Thrones has only two episodes left, and I have to admit that this late-stage beverage-cup twist is something I never saw coming. The people demand answers!
