Tetsuoooo! Kanedaaaa! Oh hey, boys. You probably already know this by now, but The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Friday that director Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Akira for Warner Bros. now has an official release date: May 21, 2021. Most fans are familiar with author Katsuhiro Otomo’s classic 1988 anime, but a live-action take on his beloved dystopian cyberpunk manga of the same name has been reportedly in the works (then not in the works, then in the works again) since at least 2012. In an interesting twist, Akira’s release date currently pits it against John Wick Chapter 4, an excellent idea for a potential crossover sequel if we’ve ever heard one.
