A New Whitney Houston Song Comes Out Friday

Clive Davis teased a previously unreleased Whitney Houston recording Thursday. In an Instagram post, the producer–Houston Svengali revealed that Houston had recorded a version of “Higher Love” at a 1990 concert in Tokyo. The song, originally by Steven Winwood, was to go on her third album, I’m Your Baby Tonight. In a different Instagram post, Davis hinted that the song would be remixed by DJ Kygo. The moody teaser trailer for the song shows Kygo discovering a VHS copy of Whitney’s Tokyo 1990 performance and looking thoughtfully into the middle distance. Davis discovered Houston and sent her on the path to pop superstardom. He cared for her deeply and wrote a letter to the star in 2001, begging her to seek treatment for her substance abuse. But in 2012, he came under criticism for hosting his annual pre-Grammys party in the same hotel Houston had died in mere hours before.
