In a big twist to the embattled narrative around Red Sonja, Jill Soloway will write and direct the previously stalled film, according to Deadline. Soloway will replace Bryan Singer, whose work on the movie stalled following another wave of sexual misconduct accusations earlier this year. “I can’t wait to bring Red Sonja’s epic world to life,” Soloway told Deadline. “Exploring this powerful mythology and evolving what it means to be a heroine is an artistic dream come true.”
After new allegations against Singer were reported in an investigation by The Atlantic, the director was initially able to keep the Red Sonja job. Millennium Films producer Avi Lerner made a statement in support of him, but later backtracked. Sonja was then put on ice at Millennium. Red Sonja, about a character seeking revenge following a sexual assault, has been in development at Millennium for more than a decade.
