Watch the Trailer for Pennyworth, the Batman Prequel About a Sexy Spy Butler

Attention, anybody who’s watched a Batman movie and wondered, “Hmm, what’s the backstory for Bruce Wayne’s fancy British butler?” The cable channel Epix has announced that its upcoming prequel series Pennyworth, a.k.a. The Butler Who F—ks, will premiere on July 28.

The spy drama will flesh out the background of Alfred Pennyworth — played here by The Imitation Game actor Jack Bannon, but in the Batman movies by Michael Caine, Jeremy Irons, and Michael Gough — in the years before he became Bruce Wayne’s butler, back when he was just an ex-Special Air Service operative starting a security company in swinging ’60s London.

The ten-episode series will follow the Pennyworth character as he takes on his first job for Thomas Wayne, per Epix. From the looks of the teaser trailer, he’ll do cool spy stuff with switchblades and kissing birds and whatnot. Pennyworth was created by Gotham’s Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon.
