Four years ago, Selena Gomez released Revival, an album with hits like “Hands to Myself” and “Same Old Love.” Since then, she’s had a kidney transplant, broken up with The Weeknd, spent time at a mental-health facility, gotten back together with Justin Bieber, broken up with Justin Bieber, and executive produced 13 Reasons Why. She’s been busy and it hasn’t been easy. Nearly two years after the release of singles “Bad Liar” and “Fetish,” Selena Gomez is finally done with her album. She revealed the news on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon literally minutes after eating spicy hot wings … because late night.
“I had such huge moments that happened in my life personally,” she explained of the break. “How was I gonna capture that? How was I gonna actually feel good about what I was saying?”
And now that she’s done and that’s one more thing off of her plate, she’s feeling “relieved.” Like previous albums, Gomez collaborated with songwriter Julia Michaels and will stay pretty firmly in pop. She experiments with different instruments like electric guitars but nothing drastic like pivoting to hip-hop. Gomez wouldn’t reveal a release date, but when it does drop, everyone will know. One of the most popular people on Instagram is about to become the most-played artist on Spotify.
