Kumail Nanjiani was scheduled as last night’s guest on Conan O’Brien’s late-night show, but he had to drop out at the last minute, leaving O’Brien with a little problem: Who would fill the time for a guest interview now that the show had no one to replace Nanjiani so quickly? Thankfully, O’Brien has had one person there by his side for over a decade, someone whose official job is to help clean up crises like this one: his assistant Sona Movsesian. She’s made a handful of appearances on the show over the years — most notably when she went to Armenia with O’Brien back in 2015 — and during last night’s show she got a much-deserved spotlight by taking over Nanjiani’s guest spot.
Since O’Brien and Movsesian’s relationship is way more unique than your typical host-guest matchup, their conversation is way more entertaining than a normal late-night interview. What did Movsesian think when she discovered she was last night’s guest? “When you called my name I was like, Oh shit, they really ran out of stuff to do.” What’s it like working for O’Brien? “There are times when I wanna poison your food or where I really think about ways to kill you slowly.” Later during the chat, Movsesian, who is currently hunting for a house in Los Angeles, takes full advantage of her big TV opportunity by putting O’Brien on the spot, which leads to a big audience chant in support of her: “Can you buy me a house?
