The new “live-action” update of The Little Mermaid has locked down its star. Disney announced today that Halle Bailey, of the singing duo Chloe X Halle she performs in with her sister, will be your new Ariel. Melissa McCarthy was recently reported to be in talks for the role of Ursula, Jacob Tremblay is being considered for Flounder, and Awkwafina is said to be up for Scuttle. The new movie is being directed by Rob Marshall, and in addition to the famous numbers from the original animated film, composer Alan Menken is working with Lin-Manuel Miranda on new songs. It is perhaps the first priority for any Ariel to have hair that looks amazing underwater, so Bailey will crush that. Oh and also, she can sing pretty well. The girl is off to a great start.
