David Simon is the creator of The Wire, which takes place in Baltimore. Donald Trump is the president of the United States who thinks Baltimore is a “rat and rodent infested mess.” Simon didn’t like this. “If this empty-suit, race-hating fraud had to actually visit West Baltimore for five minutes and meet any of the American citizens who endure there, he’d wet himself,” Simon tweeted in response to Trump’s tweet. And when others questioned just what Simon meant by that, he clarified: “It means the president, if he stepped out of his limo and found himself suddenly a racial minority, would wet himself on that fundamental alone. The humanity of those he encountered could not matter to him; only their lack of whiteness and his discomfort. So he won’t come.” He went on: “He gives no fuck for Baltimore or anyone other than his himself. He’s a piece of shit. And only those similarly fecal can be fooled.”
Some Twitter users tried to argue with Simon, saying his acclaimed HBO drama The Wire proved Trump’s point. These users were making a horrible mistake. Simon pronounced this “a narrative that could only excite a collection of bots, trolls and morons who could watch something like The Wire and … think that it was speaking uniquely to Baltimore rather than the forces arrayed against and within every American city.” He then began dishing out the kinds of insults that show us why he’s an Emmy-winning writer. Highlights include “you gibbering pathogen,” “you’re just a fucking two-dimensional taintsniffing moron,” and “fuckmooks.” Below is a somewhat curated collection of Simon’s further dealings with the MAGA-ish corners of the internet.
