WarnerMedia Orders Gremlins Animated Prequel and Oh God, Someone Already Spilled Water All Over It!

Gizmo and the truly terrifying asexual reproductive cycle of the Mogwais are back in WarnerMedia’s new animated Gremlins prequel series, which was ordered today for its streaming service. As rumored, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai journeys to 1920s Shanghai, to the moment a then-10-year-old Sam Wing first finds Gizmo. Considering how Sam kept Gizmo and his unholy offspring from destroying the planet for at least 60 years, we’d say he turned out to be a perfect pet owner.

Before the future shop owner ended up in the United States, the series reveals, the young Wing befriends “a teenage street thief named Elle” and together with Gizmo the pair “take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”

WarnerMedia ordered ten episodes of the half-hour series, written by Tze Chun and produced by Amblin Television, to its streaming service.
