ABC’s woes over casting Sean Spicer are going to get worse before they get better. Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff expressed her dismay over Spicer’s Dancing With the Stars casting on Twitter, saying, “I deeply abhor this decision by the company I work for and truly love.” Vernoff is probably the biggest ABC star to voice opposition to Spicer’s casting, but she’s not alone. Fox mainstays Seth MacFarlane and Ralph Garman tweeted their disgust with the move, and former Scrubs star Zach Braff called it “Disgraceful.” Braff had actually joked that Spicer would do DWTS in 2017. Haha, isn’t it fun that so many jokes have turned into reality?
Meanwhile, Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown has come under criticism for defending Spicer to reporters. Newsweek reported that Brown was blocking LGBTQIA followers for criticizing his comments. It appears now that he’s deleted his account. Fellow Fab Fiver Bobby Berk defended Brown’s statements, saying that it was obvious to Berk that Brown’s media training kicked in at an inopportune moment. “We’ve been trained over and over to not talk smack about anyone in an interviews and to try to be as nice as possible. When being backed in a corner about voicing his opinions about @seanspicer Karamo’s media training kicked in as we are trained to do,” he tweeted. “@ABCNetwork should be ashamed of themselves for having put the cast in the position of having to take a political side on a fucking dance competition.”
