Lifetime’s NXIVM Cult Movie Has a Trailer, So It’s Time to Assess Fictional Allison Mack

The first of the NXIVM-cult screen treatments has arrived. Lifetime dropped the teaser Friday for Escaping the NXIVM Cult: A Mother’s Fight to Save Her Daughter, which is based on the book Captive by Catherine Oxenberg. Oxenberg’s daughter India was part of the ultra-strict DOS sect within Keith Raniere’s pyramid-scheme organization, and one fellow former member of the group testified in court that India was starved by Raniere’s second-in-command, Allison Mack, at their leader’s request. Jasper Polish plays India in Escaping alongside Peter Facinelli as the convicted human trafficker Raniere, with Sara Fletcher in the role of Mack. The movie will premiere on September 21, and it will be followed by the recently announced docu-special Beyond the Headlines: Escaping the NXIVM Cult With Gretchen Carlson.
