Peaky Blinders Fan Snoop Dogg Covers the Show’s Nick Cave Theme Song

On paper, Snoop Dogg, stoner rap legend and friend of Martha Stewart, and Nick Cave, eternally sad rocker, could not be more different. But Snoop is, in fact, a fan of Cave’s, via the BBC One show Peaky Blinders. The British gangster series uses Cave’s 1994 hit “Red Right Hand” as its theme, so of course, Snoop had to cover it for the upcoming fifth season. Somehow, it’s better than all the show’s past covers of the song, which range from Arctic Monkeys to PJ Harvey to fellow stoners FIDLAR. Wearing the requisite flat cap, Snoop says, “By the order of the Peaky Blinders, this is ‘Red Right Hand,’ by Snoop Shelby! Check it out,” referencing the show’s gang leader Tommy Shelby. Call it “Gangsta Luv.” The video mixes clips from the show with footage of Snoop toking up and laying down bars in the studio, as Snoop actually raps Cave’s lyrics — adding some say what’s for good measure. “He’s a god, he’s a man, he’s a ghost, he’s a guru”? Lyrics written about Snoop Dogg, for Snoop Dogg. Nick Cave is shaking.
