Cyndi Lauper, Dulcimer Extraordinaire, Joins Kelly Clarkson to Sing ‘True Colors’

You with the sad eyes, don’t be discouraged — watch this video instead! Kelly Clarkson, cover song virtuoso, had pop icon Cyndi Lauper on her talk show today, and you know they had to do a song for us. (That’s in addition to today’s wonderful Kellyoke performance of “Any Man of Mine” by Shania Twain.) So Cyndi pulled out her trusty dulcimer and started plucking away on “True Colors,” and we pulled out some tissues. The harmonies! And even Kelly couldn’t get enough of that stringed instrument: “I’m just listening to your beautiful playing, girl,” she said, to which Lauper replied, “Oh, I don’t know. I’m no Jean Ritchie.” Afterward, Clarkson couldn’t get over what had happened. “It’s like, life made!” she told Lauper. “Dude, I’m telling you, I’m not kidding, that was like a dream come true for me.” Us too! What we’d give to be Sara Gilbert, sitting next to them on that couch and taking it all in.
