Pete Davidson Returns to SNL After His Trip to the Upside Down

After two whole episodes of Saturday Night Live’s new season aired without Pete Davidson, fans wondered when he would return and Colin Jost joked about his absence. (“A man who drove his car to a music festival still cannot remember where he parked his car a week after the show,” Jost said during last week’s “Weekend Update.”). Recently, we reported that Davidson missed SNL because he was “off pursuing another dream of his” filming the new Suicide Squad movie, but we now know that he was, in fact, in the Upside Down. In host David Harbour’s opening monologue, the Stranger Things star headed backstage only to discover a gate to the Upside Down had suddenly appeared. “Whoever’s behind these doors might need my help,” he tells Kate McKinnon. “I’m going in.” As he winds his way through the corridors, he eventually finds Davidson chilling with a llama. “Is this where you’ve been? In the Upside Down?” he asks. Davidson, with a rootlike tendril in his hands, replies, “Yeah, dude. It’s lit.”

Later on, Davidson drops by “Weekend Update” to comment on the rise in some STD cases because of dating apps and to clap back at Jost for making fun of him in last week’s episode. “I don’t know if you’ve seen the Joker,” he says to Jost, “but I think you should start being waaay nicer to me.”
