Where Are You Sitting This Week?

Every Friday in New York’s Dinner Party newsletter, senior writer Tirhakah Love plans a seating chart for the week’s main characters and asks us all to consider: Where would you sit?

The question of this week’s Renaissance-themed Dinner Party is: Which collection of dance records contains the best sequencing? Off rip, I’m gonna let you know now that musician-homie Talie Cerin and I agree that the album doesn’t start, truly, until Alien Superstar. We can argue about it, but you’d be wrong.

With that out of the way, I’m gonna go ahead and say that I think the best stretch of sounds on Renaissance occurs from “Energy” through “Virgo’s Groove.” Table One and Table Four are so difficult to say no to, but it’s possible that each of them contains a skip (“All Up in Your Mind” and “Summer Resistance,” for me) — whereas Table Two is just pure sweat dripping down the walls. I’ll park myself right there.

What’s your favorite sequence from Renaissance?
