Update, Monday, April 5, 9:45 a.m.: Those close to DMX have shared statements on the rapper’s condition as he continues to stay on life support. The family of DMX, born Earl Simmons, asked for support in an April 4 statement to the Associated Press. “We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges,” DMX’s family said. The rapper’s manager, Steve Rifkind, told TMZ, “Please pray for him.” Per the AP, the rapper’s family will hold a prayer vigil outside White Plains Hospital — where, as of April 4, DMX was in a coma and on a ventilator — at 5 p.m. on April 5.

Update, Saturday, April 3, 9 p.m.: DMX remains hospitalized and on life support, Rolling Stone confirmed. Though his attorney, Murray Richman, first told NBC on Saturday evening that DMX was taken off life support and was breathing on his own, Richman later clarified to Rolling Stone that he was “given wrong information.” DMX remains on life support, and TMZ reports that a lack of oxygen has severely impacted his brain. His children have reportedly flown in to see him.

Saturday, April 3, at 12:25 p.m.: Rapper DMX suffered a drug overdose at his home around 11 p.m. on Friday, April 2, and is currently in the hospital in White Plains, New York. According to TMZ, the overdose triggered a heart attack, and the 50-year-old rapper is now “in the critical care unit” at the hospital, with doctors cautioning that “he may not make it.” Sources told TMZ that he is currently in a “vegetative state.” DMX has spoken openly about his struggles with addiction over the years, candidly talking about crack cocaine on the podcast People’s Party With Talib Kweli after his Verzuz battle with Snoop Dogg in 2020. In recent years, DMX had gone to rehab in 2017, and again in 2019. On social media, colleagues, friends, and fans of DMX, including Killer Mike and Missy Elliott, are sharing prayers and well-wishes for the artist.
